When you purchased a mug, the supplier told you our mugs were made of 304 stainless steel. If you are not an expert on this, I think you maybe ask what is 304 stainless steel? is 304 stainless steel good ? Actually you will know more if you read below information.
There are about three common food-grade materials in the market: 304 and 316 stainless steel. The content of 304 material has reached food grade, 304 is commonly used in small household appliances or water cups, 316 is used in medical equipment, and 430 is often used as a stainless steel material for knives.

201 stainless steel (1Cr17Mn6Ni5N)
It is resistant to weak corrosive media such as air, steam, water, or stainless steel, and is generally not resistant to chemical media corrosion.
304 (06Cr19Ni10) and 316 (0Cr17Ni12Mo2)
Steel grades that are resistant to chemical corrosion media (acid, alkali, salt, etc.) become acid-resistant steel, and stainless steel has the ability to resist chemical corrosion.
Common labeling methods on the market include chemical formula (06Cr19Ni10), SUS (SUS304), of which 06Cr19Ni10 generally means national standard production, 304 generally means American ASTM standard production, and SUS 304 means Japanese standard production. Of course, stainless steel is not completely free of rust, but it has better corrosion resistance than ordinary steel. Even if it is stainless steel, there is a big difference in corrosion resistance.

201, 304, and 316 are all austenitic stainless steels, which are non-magnetic according to their performance, and some are weakly magnetic due to component segregation during smelting or improper heat treatment, resulting in a small amount of martensite or ferrite in austenite.
Austenitic stainless steel
304 (18-8, 18-10) is the mainstream of stainless steel kitchen utensils, with good rust and corrosion resistance.
18 represents the chromium content, and the following 8 and 10 represent the nickel content. The so-called 18/8, 18/10 stainless steel is just another name for 304 in our country. 18 is fixed, that is, the chromium content is 18%, the nickel content is 8%, and the nickel content is 10%.
Austenitic stainless steel
316 stainless steel has a higher nickel content than 304, and has added molybdenum.
Therefore, 316 is more resistant to corrosion than 304, especially stainless steel kitchen utensils are more prone to salt corrosion, and 316 is more resistant to corrosion than 304.
Ferritic stainless steel
201 stainless steel is a ferritic stainless steel with poor corrosion resistance. It is mainly used in cheap dishes and tableware in the kitchen.
430 and 443 stainless steels are nickel-free ferritic stainless steels, 443 has a higher chromium content than 430, and its corrosion resistance is better than 430.
430 and 443 stainless steel have magnetic permeability Q, but the corrosion resistance is not as good as 304 stainless steel.
If you purchased the mugs in China, 304 stainless steel are your best choice. For double wall mugs , some suppliers used 304 inside wall and 201 outside wall to save some cost ,most of 201 steel is made from recycled steel, it contains many other heavy metal, it is not new material, and harmful for our health.
In our factory Yongkang Raka Industry Co.,Ltd( www.rakacups.com), all of our mugs are made of double wall 304 stainless steel, all the mugs can pass the FDA and LFGB test, the quality is guaranteed . You can use many years for our quality mugs, welcome to custom the mugs from our factory and contact us at sales@rakacn.com
